Few event venues in downtown Toronto are as perfectly Canadian as The Great Hall on Queen Street West in Toronto, where on Thursday July 20th at 7:30pm, the 2017 Search for Miss World Canada Preliminaries event entertained a live audience as six Judges appraised all candidates for the crown.
First up were the swimsuits.
The show started with swimsuits and then quickly progressed to evening gowns. Here’s 2017 Miss Regina World.

The Great Hall
This large building has been a notable event venue for one hundred and twenty eight years (was built in 1889). The Great Hall started out as the West End YMCA. Records exist that show the corner of Queen St and Dovercourt Rd in Toronto was sold for $10,000, and another $30,000 paid for the new building. Construction began with the cornerstone laid on November 13, 1889. And you might think that would make it the oldest building in the neighborhood? But you’d be wrong. The oldest building in the entire downtown core is just up the road in a tiny side-street west of Dovercourt south of College. Its an absolutely tiny little house that dates back to mid 1840s (Irish potato famine). But why are we even discussing this?
