Saturday July 22nd was a very important day in the lives of fifty-seven Regional Delegates entered into the 2017 Search for Miss World Canada. This was decision day. Six event-filled days led up to this point. Our blog on this website chronicles the 2017 Miss World Canada Opening Sponsor Party at the Edward Village Hotel That was followed by Fitness Test Day at Mayfair Clubs, an Interview on Breakfast Television, Exploring the Harbour on Mariposa Cruises, Preliminaries at the Great Hall, a Bikini Fashion Show at Cabana Pool Bar, and the most climactic day was the Grand Finale.
On this historic evening Cynthia Menard was crowned 2017 Miss World Canada.
THE GRANDE FINALE
All Saturday morning and afternoon the delegates practiced the dance routines, public speaking skills and walking in heels; they were all getting ready for the grand finale that evening.
Staged in the cavernous John W. H. Bassett Theatre in the basement of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the live audience numbered over a thousand people, and there was another ten thousand people watching online, from all over the world.
The Search for Miss World Canada matters, and indeed there are many websites set up to rebroadcast highlights, especially the results and update Wikipedia with information about the winner.
This piece from Pagentology 101 TV was online less than 6hrs after the pageant ended.
BEFORE THE SHOW
There are so many great people who help put together the annual Search for Miss World Canada, and while other photographers are busy snapping shots of the delegates, I managed to get some shots showing the technicians behind the scenes.
Sean Cuffey, the MTCW Choreographer was hard at work harmonizing the opening number combining fifty seven disparate dancers into one homogeneous spectacle.
The dance routine is being studied by the live show’s Technical Director (center) and on the right is the Lighting Director and on the far left is the sound mixer.
Last minute deliveries outside include more event signage and another media wall printed banner from Sisia swimwear, the sponsor of the swimwear segment in tonight’s show.
Ticket Window live event ticketing solution was present in the lobby of the venue and was hard at work taking all forms of payment for admission, including cash at the door!
Jennifer Turner from Modern Makeup live event makeup service was busy backstage doing last minute touches.
to turn out perfect pageant performers who feel compelled to practice practice practice in the ever diminishing time period before the curtain drops.
They practice their changes again and again, making sure everything is perfect. Until suddenly ii was time to start the show. Someday there will be a shot of the crowd here…
Even as the extravaganza was beginning down below, there were yet more people arriving at the doors of the basement theater above. Here is a contingent of beauty queens from other pageants who come to represent their individual regions and organizations at the show.
Here is friendly photographer and Dahlia DeSouza backstage – Dahlia went to drop off her gifts for the Top Five Finalists and while back there she encountered this photographer friend who introduced her to Serge Kerbel and minutes later she found herself posing for Serge and his Flixel generator.
Serge and his Flixel camera was a key backstage attraction.
Todd Shapiro and Delaney Holley also posed for a Flixel.
The backdrop appears in all the social media feeds because Toddy Tickles chose to send out a Tweet and Facebook update from that spot.
Then minutes later the show started in earnest.
Above is a snapshot of the opening number. Sean Cuffey the choreographer did a great job with this dance piece by having just a dozen or so delegates on stage in the beginning. The audience was wondering where are the rest of them? and then like a torrent they all came out and just kept coming until the audience wondered how many are there?
The hosts were awkward and that added to the excitement, strangely
This is the monitor from which they read their lines, awkwardly.
Here are the swimsuits
are the evening gowns – as glimpsed backstage during the show.
Delegates nervously saunter and shuffle about backstage wearing their beautiful evening gowns.
Here’s a YouTube video showing the evening gown portion of the live stage show courtesy of all-star pageant supporter nicevisions.

Then … it was over.
