TORONTO, July 27th 2019 Nineteen-year old, Sydney Nova Scotia native Naomi Rose Colford captured the title of Miss World Canada on Saturday, July 27 at the Toronto Centre for Performing Arts – Lyric Theatre in front of a live audience and webcast around the world. Over 3000 people tuned in to watch the crowning that night, Gloren Guelos 24, of Surrey British Culmbia walked away with 1st runner up, and Courtney Mandock 25 of Winnipeg Manitoba received the 2nd runner up. Naomi is a second year nursing student at Cape Breton University, after graduating high school with the highest honors. A former competitive dancer turned dance teacher, Ms. Colford currently works for 101.9 The Giant, she has a segment on the radio, drives the cruiser to local events and handles their social media. A natural to the stage, Naomi was also on 2 seasons of the MTV show “Video Love” and featured om Classified’s music video “10 years. An avid volunteer, she can be found dedicating her time to Nourish Nova Scotia Breakfast program, Horizon Achievement Centre teaching adults with special needs how to cook, and Loaves and Fishes serving meals to the hungry among many other charitable events. Naomi’s year will be dedicated to focus attention on and to help combat food insecurity in Canada. A special emphasis will be given to the involvement of schools in providing nourishment. Canada is currently the only G7 country without a school lunch program.
